Types of Radiant Heating Floor Installations

In the last post, we covered the different types of radiant floor heating and focus on three types. We covered the inefficient air-heated radiant floors, the flexible electric radiant floors, and efficient hydronic radiant floors.

Now, in this post we will cover different types of floor installations.

Wet Installations

These types of installations embed the cables or tubing in a solid floor. How is this achieved? Well, through embedding the tubing or cables in concrete foundation slabs. These foundation slabs can be thick or think . In addition to concrete foundation slabs, the cables can also be embedded in gypsum slabs.

Now, one important fact is that thick concrete slabs work very well with radiant heating floor installations. The reason for this is that thick concrete slabs work great at storing heat.

Dry Floor Installations

In this type of installation, cables and or tubing run in an air space beneath the floor. This method of dry floor installations are less expensive than wet installations as setting up the slabs is avoided. However, this system uses air to transfer heat too and thus is not as efficient.

Dry systems add no moisture to wood frame construction.
