Water Shut-Off Valves - What are the different types
In today's blog post, we introduce the different types of water shut off valves. The main water shut-off valve is like the master switch. With it, you control the whole universe that is your home's water supply. But that is not the main valve. There are many different types of other shut-off valves.
Here is your short guide to water shut off valves:
- Shut off Valves have one common purpose: to stop the flow of water. However, there is a variety of types of valves.
One of them is the multi-turn shut off valve that forces a rubber gasket to restrict the flow of water.
There is also quarter turn valves, which work using a steel ball with a hole in the middle, which allows water to flow through the hole. Turning the handle a quarter-turn stops the flow of water.
- Shut-Off Valve Connections:
There are several types of connections for water shut-off valves.
1) PEX supply lines can use barbed, compression, or push-to-connect PTC fittings.
2) Copper supply lines can use compression, PTC, or sweat fittings
3) CPVC supply lines can use threaded or PTC connections
4) Galvanized steel pipes can use Female Iron Pipe Connections
Thus, we have:
1) Barbed fittings
2) Compression fittings
3) Sweat fittings
4) PTC (Push to connect) fittings
5) FIP connections
