Installation Tutorials - How to Install a Flush Valve
Hello crew! How are you all doing tonight? Thank you for joining me in another plumbing adventure. Tonight we will cover the following two questions:
1) What is a flush valve
2) How to install a new flush valve?
Let's get this party started, shall we?
First, what is a flush valve? A flush valve is a part of the toilet located in the middle of the toilet tank. The flush valve includes the overflow tube and the rubber tank ball/flapper. The overflow tube works for the hole where water enters the toilet after the toilet is flushed. The flap is what cover the hole after the toilet tank has fulled.

When a flush valve is broken, the toilet tank will not be able to maintain the water level. Thus, it is often necessary to replace the tank ball/flapper to solve a leaking problem. And if this does not work, then the next step is to replace the entire flush valve.
Now, how do you install a flush valve?
Well, for this operation you will need a slip-joint, adjustable wrenches, a set of screwdrivers and a new flush valve.
The first step in installing a new flush valve is to drain the toilet tank. This requires turning of the water, disconnecting the water supply, and using a screwdriver and adjustable wrench to unscrew the toilet tank.
The next step is to remove the toilet tank. It is important to then place the toilet tank upside down. So that it does not get damaged or scratch, or so that it does not damage your floor, put the toilet tank on top of a towel or other protective cloth.
The next step is the actual installation of the flush valve. This will involve unscrewing the spud and removing the old flush valve. Then, inserting the new flush valve into the tank opening after sliding the cone washer on the new flash valve.
The final step involves putting back the toilet tank and connecting the water supply line.
The procedure is a breeze. Replacing the flush valve will also contribute to water conservation. It is a win win for everyone.
